Headaches

We are constantly seeking to improve our range of services, although never losing sight of our primary consideration - looking after the health of your teeth and gums.

Occlusion (the position of the teeth when the jaws are closed)

In addition to general and restorative dentistry, John Muirhead has a particular interest in the study of migraines. This allows him to treat headaches, migraine and neck pains, which are frequently linked to jaw alignment and the "bite". Whether you have had these symptoms for a few months or for years, please mention it to us, as we may be able to help.

You may have had success with a soft gumshield or “night guard”, but this is not a reliable treatment, may be unsuccessful and can even make matters worse.

Our night guard is a precision dental appliance which is custom made to fit the teeth on either upper or lower jaw. Worn overnight, it will reduce the tendency to grind, protect teeth from wear and reduce muscle spasm, which can be the cause of neck pain, shoulder pain and headaches.

People are often amazed that teeth can have such an impact. In fact, the most extreme symptoms are usually the most successfully treated.

Here are just a couple of genuine comments from satisfied customers:

“My neck pain was so bad… the splint paid for itself the first night!”

“I’ve been taking tablets for 30 years. I can’t believe this piece of plastic has stopped my migraines”

SNORING

Snoreguard – the Anti-Snoring Device

Snoring really is no joke!

As sufferers and their partners will testify, snoring can disrupt sleep and cause all sorts of  problems. Snoring is a condition which is also notoriously difficult to cure. We see people who have even endured surgery to try to stop the problem.

Snoreguard is a simple device worn rather like a gumshield and is surprisingly effective, stopping your lower jaw from dropping back and therefore making the act of snoring more difficult.

We just need an impression of your jaw which is then sent to the dental laboratory. One week later, the Snoreguard is ready to fit. Usually it works perfectly first time, but sometimes further adjustments are needed. This represents excellent value for money in return for a sound night’s sleep.
